Our August 2015 cover bike is from Reno’s Powersports KC. We enjoyed shooting cover model Stephanie on this unique motorcycle, and we’re sure you’ll also enjoy this month’s behind the scenes photos and video from our cover shoot!

Street-legal off-road motorcycles have been around for a long time; however, the new 2015 Aprilia Caponord 1200 ABS Rally has taken the traditional “street-enduro” to a whole new level. Along with its great looks, this machine is the perfect blend of technology and functionality. From the tubeless wire-spoked wheels to its fine-tuned traction control and ABS, these unique features makes this bike incredibly efficient on the street, and when heading off-road on your next big adventure.

The 1,197cc four-cam 90-degree V-twin has more than enough power, and the new Helmholtz resonator in the exhaust improves the low-end and midrange power without affecting the bike’s peak principles. The larger new front wheel, tubular crash guards, engine skid plate and good clearance helps ensure that you can traverse almost any terrain. The new 1200 Rally’s three-mode ride-by-wire throttle has a Touring, Sport, and Rain setting. The Rain setting cuts the engine output to 100 horsepower for added safety in wet riding conditions. The 1200 Rally’s traction control has three selectable levels, and can be turned on and off as needed.

The electronically controlled suspension, features automatic damping control, with four electronically adjustable rear preload settings. A pressure sensor on the top of the left fork tube and a potentiometer on the swingarm calculates the speed of the suspension stroke front and rear, and then provides a constant stream of adjustments that provides proper damping for all riding conditions.

A generous 6.3-gallon fuel tank helps insure that you’ll make it to your next fuel stop, and the well-padded seat is quite comfortable. In its raised position, the taller manually adjustable windscreen directs air up and over the rider, even at highway speeds. The chassis movements are well controlled, and there’s very little dive when braking hard going into a corner. With a dry weight of only 502 lbs., the 1200 Rally is significantly lighter than comparable machines.

The quick detach aluminum covered plastic hard bags are very roomy, and can be opened from the side or the top, which is very convenient. An accessory top case is also available, which can hold up to two full-face helmets. An interface that links your iPhone or Android device with the bike, transforms your phone into a virtual dashboard. Along with map data, your phone can display engine power output, bike lean angle, and other valuable information.

So if you’re looking for the perfect street-legal, off-road, long-distance adventure-tourer, this bike is for you. The Army Green color leaves no doubt that this motorcycle is eager to get off the street and into the wilderness at a moment’s notice.
