28th Annual Bikers with a Mission (BWAM) Ride - Kansas City, Missouri

Written by  June 16, 2017

The 28th Annual Bikers with a Mission (BWAM) Ride began at City Union Mission on the morning of Saturday, June 10. High temperature and strong wind were the prominent weather features for the day. More than 230 riders, passengers, and motorcycle enthusiasts participated in the fundraiser for City Union Mission to help with programs and services assisting the area’s homeless and working poor. Proceeds help the Mission’s clients with needs over and above those the organization typically budgets for, including utility assistance, eyeglasses, dental care, bus tokens and baby formula.

The 100-mile route passed through Buckner, Bates City, Kingsville, Strasburg, and Pleasant Hill concluding at Gail’s Harley-Davidson in Grandview where lunch was served, and The Electric Rev, Jimmie Bratcher and band provided great music. Bikers were welcomed by the Mission’s Executive Director Dan Doty. Jody Jarrett sang the National Anthem, BWAM founder Guy Girratano spoke about the history of the ride, and Pastor Bob Kaps of Heart of God Fellowship shared a brief gospel message. Awards for fund raising were presented, and there were drawings for door prizes. There was also a silent auction featuring several very nice items. Some of the prizes and auction items were, as always, W.M. Miller knives.

Dan said, “We are so grateful for a beautiful day of riding with great folks who not only have a passion for motorcycles, but also for the poor and homeless in our community.”  He also expressed the Mission’s appreciation to the dedicated event volunteers, to the individuals and groups who supported the event with financial pledges, and the following generous title sponsors – Gail’s Harley Davidson, Antioch Bible Baptist Church, Heart of God Fellowship, S&K Leimkuehler, Inc., Engle Motor, and W.M. Knives. Additional sponsors were Panera Bread, The Roasterie, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Shawnee Cycle Plaza, Daystar, Restoration Riders CMA, Paradise Riders CMA, Grandview Top Company, and Godfather's Pizza. Dan was pleased to announce that the event raised nearly $17,000 for the Mission. Information about the Mission’s comprehensive programs and services and the opportunity to contribute are available on the Mission's website.
