2019-Spring Thunder Beach Rally- Panama City Beach, Florida

Written by  May 31, 2019

April showers may bring May flowers but the first of May ushers in the Spring Thunder Beach Rally in Panama City Beach, Florida and sends bikers from all around the south east down to converge on that beautiful stretch of beach. The Gulf coast beaches hold the most beautiful white sand in the country, hands down!!!

The hurricanes keep coming in and trying to take away those beautiful beaches, like the most recent with Michael, it really did a number on Panama City, Mexico Beach and the surrounding areas, so much so that they canceled the fall rally back in October.

2019 spring thunder beach CM10So many bikers were pissed about that, stating that Panama City Beach remained for the most part, in tack, however, a lot of the displaced folks and people coming in to help out needed to stay in the available hotels, so they started raising money towards the rebuild instead. These many months away and there has not been a huge amount of progress. 2 trees destroyed our friend’s house where we’ve stayed for the past several years over in Panama City, and the main house sustained enough damage that it too had to be brought down for a re-build. They are still in the tear down and remove process. The insurance companies drug their feet so many of them are just now starting that re-build, and don't even get me started on those old, old beautiful huge trees that lined the streets everywhere with that gorgeous moss draping down from them, those are going to take FOREVER to come back! So Sad for ALL of them.

2019 spring thunder beach CB1 There were several lucky folks that were able to head on down Wednesday to help kick start the rally at the "Kick-Off" party at Hammer Head Fred's (one of the Rally Venues), listening to "Buck Wild" (one of our local bands) an even smaller few, were even luckier by getting down there the first of the week...I don't even want to hear it!

The Wednesday folks had to endure a little wet stuff along the way; wouldn't be the last time though.

2019 spring thunder beach NM5 Wednesday also kicked off the Miss Thunder Beach Contest preliminary rounds at Hammer Head Fred's, which would run throughout the weekend. Thursday the fans got a sneak peek at the contestants and the opportunity to get a photo of them at Frank Brown Park, which was another Rally Venue.

The other Venues were, Crossroads Saloon, Panama City Beach H.D, Sharkey's, Sandpiper, Donavan's Reef , Salty Hobo and there were activities going on at Pier Park and Lucky 13 where our bud, the best airbrush artist in Alabama sets up each Rally, working his magic.

2019 spring thunder beach TM1 There were Poker Runs all weekend from various locations, benefiting various charities, like the Shriners Children's Burn Unit, local Veterans charities and others.

The Thunder Beach Main Stage at Frank Brown Park was were you would find the finals of the Miss Thunder Beach Contest, Stunt Shows and Concerts, just to name a few, there was a lot going on in the Park all weekend.

Saturday is always the day for the Sgt. Kevin Kight memorial parade down front beach road, giving all the bikers the chance to show off their rides and support the local police and the kid’s toy run.

2019 spring thunder beach custom bike show  The Baddest Bagger, LED Light contest, Sound Off and the Custom Bike shows were another way that the bikers got to show off and show case their hot rides.

Folks encountered a little bit of rain on the way down, a little while there and again on the way home Sunday, but none of that would dampen the spirits of all the riders that came to enjoy the Spring Rally.

We decided to do things a little different for this rally, so we enlisted some "contributing photographers" to share their adventures with all of us, since they were going to be spread out and hitting the various venues and making little road trips here and there, and I have to say, they did an awesome job. That's one way for us to be everywhere at once!

We had a contest to see which photographer would get the LEAD PHOTO, the winner was to receive a couple of Cycle Connections Koozies, however, we loved them all so all of them were winners, but Karla Duncan snapped the winning photo for the lead, it just tells the whole story with one shot, thank you girl and many thanks to all of the rest of our contributing photographers!
