Biker Sunday at Heart of God Fellowship - Buckner, Missouri

Written by  May 29, 2017

Each spring since 1999 the congregation at Heart of God Fellowship in Buckner, Missouri, has welcomed members of the motorcycle community to a special worship service. April 23 was the date for this year’s Biker Sunday. Parking in the large lot on the south side of the church was reserved for motorcycle’s only. A huge tent provided ample room for the hundreds in attendance.

Standing at a one-of-a-kind lectern complete with a springer fork and handlebars, Pastor Bob Kaps welcomed everyone to the service. Brother Bob has ridden motorcycles for years and holds a special place in his heart for people who ride. In addition to his talent as a speaker, Bob has a great singing voice, and he was joined by several musicians and singers to perform a medley of upbeat songs beginning with Stevie Ray Vaughn’s Tick Tock. Following the inspiring sermon, there was an altar call with members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association at the front to greet those who came forward, listen to their needs, and pray with them. There were lots of hugs, tears, and smiles. Another unique touch at Biker Sunday was the use of helmets in place of offering plates. Many chose to donate, although there was no pressure to do so.

After the worship service, bikers enjoyed a cookout lunch provided by the church. Event T-shirts were available. Representatives of upcoming charity rides were there to provide information about their events.  In the parking lot, C.M.A. members were available to bless each motorcycle and pray for the riders.

Thanks go to the congregation at Heart of God Fellowship and Pastor Bob for reaching out to bikers and making them feel very welcome.
