Hog Trough Quick Release Frame Mounted Drink Holder

Written by  March 31, 2009

From the moment I purchased my new Harley-Davidson Fat Boy I started adding chrome and accessories. Before rolling it out the door at the dealership, the pipes were replaced, a detachable windshield and detachable backrest/luggage rack was installed, and the search was on for a good set of aftermarket leather saddlebags and a T-Bag I could attach and remove quickly. I also purchased a sharp-looking Badlander seat I could swap out with the stock seat in under a minute. Are you starting to see a trend here?
You've got it! I can convert my cruiser into a touring bike in less than 20 minutes, and when I get where I'm going I can change it right back. Having detachable components is important to me, and I refuse to install anything on my bike that I can't put on and take off with ease. This requirement has kept my bike looking good; before, during, and after a road trip; however, one drawback I've encountered is there was no good way to carry a drink. I've tried sticking a bottle of water between my windshield and the headlight, which doesn't work, and I've often placed bottles of water in the side compartment of my T-bag, which sort of works, but is hard to reach and can be somewhat dangerous to anyone behind me when one accidently slips out and bounces off the road as it did on last year's trip to Sturgis. Sorry guys!
Just as I was about to give up on the whole drink holder dilemma I was introduced to Carp, the owner of Hog Trough, who solved all of my problems. Well, at least my drink holder problem. He showed me one of his latest creations, the Hog Trough Quick Release Frame Mounted Drink Holder, which mounts to your frame down tube. This is one of the coolest and most innovative products I've ever seen. Not only is it detachable, but it comes with a 20-ounce insulated mug and a 1-liter insulated bottle. The mug includes a flexible plastic straw so you can sip your coffee when hitting the road in the morning and then swap it out with a large bottle of water at your first stop. And if that's not enough, to keep your drink from bouncing out or blowing away when it's empty, you simply set the mug or bottle down inside the drink holder and turn it 90 degrees to lock it into place via the mug handle or bottle strap. Now how cool is that?
The Quick Release Frame Mounted Drink Holder I tested fits Softail, Electra Glide and Road King models and any Harley-Davidson frame with 1 ΒΌ inch down tubes. This quality product is built in the USA and made from polished stainless steel. In case you were wondering, yes it will clear your faring, and yes, it allows you to lock your front forks without hitting the drink holder.
Hog Trough also makes several other great products for the Ultra Classic and Road Glide models, such as their Locking Glove Box Cover Set that features a locking left side cover with drink holder and a locking right side cover with matching locks and keys. As with the Softail kit, this set includes a mug and insulated bottle.
